In addition to attending the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Elite 16 event that was held in Uberlandia, Brazil, FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graca F° also visited the Praia Clube, which is a social and sports association that is located in Minas Gerais and was established in 1935. The Praia Clube is a 300,000m2 facility.
The Central and South American Volleyball Confederation (CSV) and Praia Clube worked together to put on the Elite 16 tournament. Both the Brazilian men’s and women’s teams had a tremendous amount of success at the tournament, taking home five of the six medals that were up for grabs.
In the women’s competition, Duda and Ana Patricia of Brazil won the gold medal on their own turf by claiming victory over Andressa Cavalcanti and Vitoria Rodrigues of their own country in three sets (21-17, 27-29, 15-11). Bronze medals were awarded to veterans Barbara Seixas and Carol Salgado, making this the first time that a single country has taken the first three spots on the podium at the Elite16 level.

In the men’s competition, Andre Loyola and George Wanderley of Brazil prevailed over Pedro Solberg and Arthur Lanci of Brazil in an exciting three-set match (28-30, 21-15, 15-11) to win the gold medal in front of their home supporters for the third consecutive year in a row. Anders Mol and Christian Srum, both of Norway, came in third place at the Uberlandia competition, winning the bronze medal.

In addition to this, the President of the FIVB was given the chance to tour the exceptional facilities at the Praia Clube. Along with Praia Clube President Carlos Augusto Ribeiro Ferreira Braga, President of the Minas Gerais Volleyball Federation Tomás Mendes, President of the CSV Marco Tullio Teixeira, and Brazilian volleyball icon Gilberto “Giba” Amauri de Godoy Filho, he was present.

The city of Uberlandia, which is located just over 400 kilometers south of Brasilia, played home to an international beach volleyball competition for the very first time this past weekend. In May of 2022, Uberlandia was the host location for the South American Tour Finals. However, Brazil has already hosted a tournament on the Beach Pro Tour this year. Itapema played host to a Challenge event back in April.
